Hacienda Sonora farm is located at the foot of the Poas Volcano. The farm uses a hydroelectric generator that converts fast-flowing rivers into energy. The wet and dry mills are powered by 100% renewable energy produced by the generator, providing free electricity to everyone who lives and works on the farm. Hacienda Sonora generously shares its success, paying fair wages to all employees and strengthening the local community economy.

Like Caturra and Pacas, Villa Sarchi (also called La Luisa or Villalobos Bourbon) is a natural mutation of a Bourbon population with a single gene mutation, causing the plant to grow smaller (so-called "Dwarf/Compactism"). The variety was discovered in the northwestern region of the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica in the 1950s or 1960s and was subsequently subjected to lineage selection (the selection of individual plants over successive generations) there.
