Gera Jimma Geisha Natural - Ethiopia - 2021
Tasting Notes: Jasmine, honeysuckle, elderflower and vanilla on the nose. Lemon cheesecake, pineapple, pear, raisins (sultaniye) on the palate. This coffee with a silky body is like tiramisu in the end. Multi-layered and perfumed.
The Gera wash station is located in Jimma at an altitude of 1,860 to 1,990 meters above sea level. Geisha variety was first discovered in Ethiopia, Jimma's fertile red soils, high altitudes and distinctly distinct wet and dry season transitions provide all the natural conditions this variety needs to thrive. Most farmers in the region farm less than 5 hectares, with many determining the size of their coffee farms by number of trees rather than surface area. Cultivation methods are mostly traditional; coffee is grown as part of an integrated "food forest" planted with other agri-food crops. Almost all of the farm work is done manually by family members, the rate of mechanization in the process is very low. After carefully selecting the cherries, the farmers deliver them to the washing station. During product acceptance, station workers manually select all incoming products to sift under/over ripe or damaged cherries.
Geisha is a variety first documented in the Ethiopian village of Geisha and is extremely popular in the international market. However, it owes its fame to a lot of Geisha grown from a Panamanian farm, winning the "Best in Panama" auction and selling for a hitherto unheard of price of $44.37 per KG.Coffee grade: Gr.1 Jimma Geisha Natural
